Under the hood of the Mazda CX-5, drivers will see one of two powerful engines. The first is Mazda’s standard Skyactiv®-G 2.5 engine, which produces a compelling 186 lb-ft of torque.
What comes standard for drivers of the Honda CR-V? Unfortunately, something less exciting: a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which only nets 179 lb-ft of torque. While Honda does offer standard 2-wheel drive (2WD) or optional Real Time AWD™ (all-wheel drive), this 1.5L engine is all you’ll get in terms of gasoline powertrains.
Mazda, on the other hand, offers a Skyactiv®-G 2.5 Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine. This engine, which works with a Skyactiv®-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission, pumps out a whopping 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.
Another bonus of the Mazda CX-5 is G-Vectoring Control Plus. This standard system helps minimize the amount of corrective steering needed while driving for better control and less fatigue. Since this system is exclusive to Mazda, you won’t find it in the CR-V.
In today’s modern world, technology is all around us. Now, thanks to the innovative features of the 2023 Mazda CX-5, it’s also inside your vehicle.
At the center of it all is Mazda’s standard 10.25-inch full-color touchscreen display. Nope, that’s not a typo.
How does the screen inside the CR-V look? Well, its standard size is only seven inches. Also, the highest upgrade option is only a 9-inch touch-screen display.
Both models will also provide standard access to both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration. Simply connect your compatible smartphone to send and receive text messages, listen to your favorite tunes, and much more.
However, your audio will sound better with the available Bose® 10-speaker surround sound system with Centerpoint® and AudioPilot® in the Mazda CX-5. The Honda CR-V maxes out with an 8-speaker audio system.
When it comes to ensuring the safety of you and your passengers, nothing is more important. That’s why Mazda and Honda have implemented a series of safety and driver-assistive technologies into their vehicles.
For the Mazda CX-5, this is known as i-Activsense®, which includes standard features such as:
- Lane Departure Warning with Lane-keep Assist
- Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning
- Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert
There’s also Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, which sets and maintains a speed range to keep a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. If the vehicle in front of you reduces its speed or even comes to a stop, your car can adjust accordingly.
Honda does offer similar standard features. In addition, both models offer Traffic Jam Assist, which is designed to take control of the vehicle during bumper-to-bumper traffic situations.
However, only the Mazda CX-5 will provide Driver Attention Warning, which will monitor your driving behavior and let you know when it’s time to take a break.
