PERFORMANCE
Mazda CX-5

When choosing your next vehicle, it’s all about performance. A powerful motor can create a more engaging and exciting drive and make you want to spend more time behind the wheel. The 2023 Mazda CX-5 offers two engine options so you can find the blend of power you crave.

Power Down the Open Road

A standard Skyactiv®-G 2.5 4-cylinder engine generates up to 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque for a smooth and quick drive. You can also take it up a notch with the Skyactiv®-G 2.5 Turbo 4-cylinder engine, which produces up to 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.

To compare, the 2023 Toyota RAV4 only offers one all-gas powertrain: a 2.5L Dynamic Force 4-cylinder engine. That means you won’t be able to customize your drive. This motor produces 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, so you may notice a difference in the way these two SUVs perform.

Stable Footing

Ready to take control of the road? In the Mazda CX-5, standard i-Activ AWD® (all-wheel drive) can help you do so! With standard all-wheel drive, you can expand your adventures to all types of driving surfaces: gravel, grass, pavement, dirt, you name it.

On the other hand, the Toyota RAV4 makes Front-Wheel Drive standard, though you can opt for All-Wheel Drive. However, if a dynamic and engaging ride is what you’re after, the Mazda CX-5 is a good choice for you.

INTERIOR
Mazda CX-5

While a commanding engine makes a car more fun to drive, it’s nothing without refined interior comfort. One of the first specs you’ll want to check out when looking for your new SUV is its interior space.

Kick Back and Relax

Stretch out with the following cabin measurements in the 2023 Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota RAV4:

MAZDA CX-5
Toyota RAV4
Headroom with Moonroof (front/rear) 39.3 inches/39 inches 37.7 inches/39.5 inches
Legroom (front/rear) 41 inches/39.6 inches 41 inches/37.8 inches
Hip Room (front/rear) 55.2 inches/55.3 inches 54.3 inches/47.7 inches

Your back-seat passengers might prefer the ride in the Mazda CX-5, though, with its significantly more ample legroom and hip room. Even with a car full of kids, the Mazda provides enough room to spread out.

Year-Round Comfort

On top of providing plenty of room to share, the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota RAV4 can be equipped with several creature comforts to elevate your experience. Available features include:

  • Heated front seats
  • Moonroof
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control

These available amenities will help you cool down on hot days or warm up on chilly nights.

SAFETY
Mazda CX-5

It’s simple: When you’re alert, your passengers are better protected. To encourage focused driving, prevent accidents, and provide course correction, both the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota RAV4 equip standard driver-assistance suites. Which SUV will provide ultimate peace of mind?

Attentive Driving

To help you detect potential collisions sooner, the 2023 Mazda CX-5 and the 2023 Toyota RAV4 both come standard with their model-specific versions of the following systems:

  • Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection: Warns when a frontal collision seems likely and applies the brakes, if needed, to help avoid impact entirely.
  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go: Maintains a set speed and following distance between your SUV and the car ahead, stopping and slowing as traffic flow dictates.
  • Lane Departure Warning System with Lane-keep Assist: Monitors your vehicle’s position between lane markers to alert you when you may be drifting out of your lane and can apply gentle steering corrections to keep you on track.
Wraparound Security

The Mazda CX-5 also comes standard with Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert to act as an extra set of eyes on the open road. This feature will be helpful when merging on the highway or backing out of a spot in a busy parking lot.

While a comparable system is offered in the RAV4, you’ll need to upgrade to a higher trim level.
